In 2011 Chris was inspired on hearing of the proposed establishment of a Memorial in Hay to the Australian Light Horse in time for the centenary of The Charge of Beersheba in 2017. The drawing was donated by Chris to the Hay Light Horse Memorial Association to help them raise the necessary funds. The original drawing has been raffled.
The memorial now stands proudly in Pine Street near the Hay Memorial High School as it was unveiled on 11th November, 2017. The 2021 Hay Anzac Day march will go up to this memorial before going into Hay War Memorial High School grounds.
You will be able to see Chris sitting at his table drawing in the window. Please pop in and speak to him when you are in Hay as he is always ready for a yarn!
The red and white flag will be flying outside so you will know he is there!!
Just keeping you up to date with Chris and his challenge with prostate cancer. He has just finished eight weeks of radiotherapy In Wagga Wagga where in stayed in the Can-Assist accommodation of Lilier Lodge during the week and a couple of weekends. Wagga is just under three hours from Hay. He is recovering at home and he will have the Chris McClelland Gallery at 95 Lachlan Street opened for limited hours until he has his strength back. We will open the Gallery on demand if it is closed.
While having treatment Chris completed a couple of drawing and was given a commission to do a drawing which he is still working on. The drawing below was completed and posted to Chris’s Uncle Dick for his 100th birthday.
Chris was invited to join Richard Filder on his Conversation hour.
