I was asked to do this drawing for one of the team members on the Kokoda Track trek we undertook in 2010. Like the much respected Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels of WWII, his native porter gave him his utmost in assistance along every foot of the sometime treacherous track.
This was a tough and rewarding journey shared intimately together, a team effort. It not only challenged you to the limit of physical endurance but revealed your strength mentally.
More importantly though, it was an unforgettable pilgrimage in the spirit of a courageous generation of young men who were tested to the limit of human endurance. Many made that ultimate sacrifice. They gave their today for our tomorrow.
Sadly today, when you stop to face up to the truth and consider the weaknesses of today's generation brought about by the ignorance of modern parenting, the media and government, you wonder whether those gallant men who died so tragically would have thought it all worthwhile.
I think not.
