The Intruder
This was a scene we appreciated as we canoed down a beautiful and tranquil section of the Siyadla River, Kosi Forest Reserve, South Africa. Our canoes silently glided down its length little disturbing the wildlife along its meandering path. The raffia palms fringing its banks were nesting sites for the rare palm-nut vulture. Exquisite malachite kingfishers were seen fishing with their dagger like beaks from overhanging branches and aerial tree roots. In this scene a tiny kingfisher peers down apprehensively at a juvenile Nile crocodile who intrudes into his fishing spot.
